Fatboy Slim’s project the „Brighton Port Authority“ has spurt an interesting music video featuring David Byrne and Dizzee Rascal with a short guest rap.
The song sounds a little bit outdated, especially when you ignore the lyrics and the scent of the present due to Dizzee’s appearance.
But the use of black bars is quite amusing, refreshing and innovative.
It also shows, that the way our society deals with nudity in the media is still quite absurd, because the presence of such black bars or the typical MTV arse crack mosaics even draws more attention to these special parts of the body censorship tries to draw attention off of.
XaoS is a fast interactive fractal zoomer. You can use your mouse to navigate through many different fractal environments. There is also an autopilot function and it is possible to record your journey. In general the functionality and the possibilites are vast.
If you are new to the world of fractals, there are also animated tutorials to guide you through.
XaoS currently runs on Windows, Mac OS X, Linux, and other Unix-like systems and is available for free, licensed under the GPL.
The current version is 3.4 and the Mac OS interface has been completely rewritten.
When you are a regular visitor of gametrailers.com, you might have noticed, that there are some games out there in the pipeline and up for release in the near future, that try to make a different approach in terms of game play and especially the perspective you see while playing.
These games stand in the tradition of games like Spiderman, Assassins Creed or Pince Of Persia. The future will show, if they are able to raise the bar and add some magic to the gameplay.
The first one I found was Bionic Commando. It’s a remake of the same titled NES game from 1988 (after „Bionic Commando Rearmed“). Like in the original version the hero has the ability to grab and swing through the maps (Indie J. style).
The major difference to the 80’s version is the 3rd dimension, because we are talking 21st century here. And imho it really looks great. The ability to grab almost everything in front and above you gives you the freedom to explore the levels by running or by swinging to the third dimension. And you also can shoot your enemies whilst doing that (via a downgraded auto aim function).
Bionic Commando will swing out in late October 2008 for PC, PS3 and XB360.
Next one is called Dark Void, which will be a mid 2009 release for PS3 and XB360.
The hero in this one is equipped with a rocket driven back pack and a game feature called „grip system“. This allows to fly through the maps and to grip rocks and enemy UFOs, which then can be captured for a flight. It simply looks terrific, but the real game will have to proof how it is possible to handle the different movement and grip commands.
Last but not least there is Mirror’s Edge. This trailer teased me the most. Because of it’s style, the colors and the gameplay. The focus of the game is not on killing all the enemies. The heroine is a runner, that transports information from A to B for an underground society. The red and yellow highlighted things and areas throughout the game show the player where he or she might go or jump or fall. All of this is inspired by the sport called freerunning or parkour influenced by a french guy named Sébastien Foucan.
Release date unfortunately is TBA. Can’t wait. For PC, PS3 and XB360.
All movies are available as stream and download also in HD quality via Gametrailers.com.
