Basic Space By The xx Directed By Anthony Dickenson

We’ve just featured Mr. Anthony Dickenson in our latest post about video mapping in music videos and it seems like this guy has a great hand for cool analog and digital effects, that come fresh and beautiful.

This time it’s for The xx’s wonderful track Basic Space.

Video Mapping In Music Videos

I just stumbled upon Miike Snow’s latest music video directed by Anthony Dickenson of Pulse Films.

It is a great example of the use of video mapping in a music video and so I decided to find more examples for that trend.

The next one is directed by Dirk Rauscher and produced by Dirk Rauscher and Kjell Rijntjes (both are the German VJ team Bruno Tait). It’s for the track Sansula by German DJ and producer Dominik Eulberg, with whom we already had the pleasure to perform side by side at the Mapping festival in Geneva (CH).

The last one is not exactly a music video, but it fits well anyway. Already kind of a classic, but still beautiful to watch.

It’s Scintillation by the French Xavier Chassaing to the music of Fedaden and it’s made of 35,000 single photographs and a combination of stop motion and live projection mapping techniques.

I am sure, that there are more examples (even older ones) out there, so let us know, when there is something to add!

Light Writing Performance & Light Spraying Project

The Cologne artists’ collective Lichtfaktor uses a variety of real life and computer controlled light sources to produce photos and videos in urban locations by night.

They have produced this short movie in cooperation with light jugglers Optix. It shows the impressive possibilities of that concept.

“Halo” by French artist Aïssa Logerot is a similar project with a different approach. It’s more about the source than the outcome and it utilizes a metaphor of a spraying can.

“halo is a handy light specially dedicated to light-writting. Graffiti artists can conserve their own gesture they have with a spray can. It is possible to change the color and the brightness of the led to change the graffiti’s styles. If the light doesn’t have enough battery, the user must shake it to have energy again.”

The coolest thing is the fact, that the energy source is a battery, that loads with pure, kinematic muscle power. So you have to shake it just like you’d have to shake a real can before you use it. Even the sound should be the same!
