M83: We Own The Sky — Music Video Contest
French soft electronic artists Anthony Gonzalez aka M83 (originally founded with Nicolas Fromageau in 2000) has invited fans and ambitious video artists to create a music video for the song “We Own The Sky” of his latest 2008 album “Saturdays=Youth”.
The competition has attracted exactly 83 (M83?) artists from all over the globe and there are some videos of very high quality in visual execution and/or storytelling.
I have just grabbed a few, which I liked the most so far, but if you are still not sick of the song after hearing it several times just jump to the contest page on Youtube to find more (link below).
by Spencer Dennis (edit) and Daniel Spangler (VFX) aka Spaniel Productions
by David Altobelli (director), Dan Norton (motion design) and Matt Divito (additional VFX)
by Alex Takacs and Joe Nankin (directors), Adam Kauper and Jackson Seidenberg
by Luke Ewing and Samm Hodges
by Matt Ferrin, Joseph K. Gannon and James P. Gannon
In the past few months such video competitions often had bad press, because some inviting artists have never decided on a winner and the competition just fell into oblivion. Therefor many contributers have blamed the inviting artists to simply try to hog the limelight and when all the shine is gone they lose the interest in the contest and the contributions.
I do hope, that this is not the case here, because there is really a lot of outstanding work to find and in my humble opinion, there’s more than just one winner video.
